This
letter shows that Corporal Mattingley first was buried in
the town of Schimmert, in a small temporary burial ground,
before he found his rest in Brunssum
“According to our records, Pte Mattingley was one of 18
casualties recovered from Schimmert and reburied in Brunssum
war Cemetery in July 1946. There were 2 plots at Schimmert.
The plot containing Pte Mattingley and 11 other casualties
was located to the North-East of Schimmert, in the vicinity
of the junction of Leeuwenkuilsweg and Mareweg. The other
plot of 6 casualties was to the North-West along the
Langstraat. We do not have photographs of either of these
plots.
