Hello Ruud,

My editor forwarded your email to me as I have a weekly letters page in the Bridlington Free Press, on which readers can appeal for informatiion, thank or praise someone, try to trace lost relatives or friends etc.

I will be happy to use your letter in the hope a relative of Frederick or Doris Gee may come forward and if they do I will pass the information on to you or put you in touch with them. It can sometimes take a couple of weeks or more from receiving a letter to it going in the paper.

It would possibly help if you could email me as a jpeg attchment a couple of the photos we could use with your letter.

Regards and best wishes, Linda.

Letters to Linda, Bridlington Free Press,

Hello Ruud,

Thanks for your email.

I've spoken to our photographer and unfortunately if we lifted one of the photos from your website it would be too small to print in the paper. Our photographer told me we would need an original jpeg copy to be able to use it. If this is possible for you to do, I don't mind which photo you send as an attachment but would suggest one that includes the young boy on it.

Regards, Linda

Hello again Ruud,

Thanks for thfe photos, exactly what we wanted. When your letter goes in the paper it will also appear on our website so you can log on and take a look if you like. I willconfirm the date as soon as I know which paper it will appear in.

Regards, Linda

Good luck, I hope someone contacts me and of couse if any relativ es did contact me I will let you know.

Best wishes, Linda

Hello Ruud,

Success!

I've just spoken to the wife of Frederick Henry Gee's brother. Margaret Gee is married to Raymond Gee and she told me her husband is the last surviving member of the Gee family.

The boy in the picture was called Keith Gee and he was the son of Frederick and Doris Gee, but sadly he too has died.

The photo of the family group are not related. It is a Dutch family who Doris and Keith used to stay with when they visited the area.

Margaret and Raymond Gee are quite happy for you to contact them.

My editor has asked if it would be possible for you to put a link on your website to our website. Hope this is OK with you.

Regards and best wishes, Linda

The article in the Bridlington Free Press newspaper of 30-04-2009

06-05-2009

Hello Ruud

I am the son of Margaret and Raymond Gee who I understand have been in touch with you regarding your appeal in the Bridington Free Press for information about Frederick Henry Gee.

They had to move house some time ago and at the moment all family photograps are scattered aroung various members of the family, they are trying to get some together to send to you.   They will either send them direct to you or will send them to me to scan in and email.

They have asked me to tell you that Raymond is the last surviving brother of Fred although they understand there are in laws who may have contacted you but Raymond is the only surviving blood relative.

One of Fred's brothers, Arthur,  was killed in Gradra, Italy three months before Fred's death.

Keith, the son of Fred died about 5 years ago, after having dental work carried out, having been orphaned at the age of 9 years.

My father, Raymond, has been over to your cemetary to visit the grave and was touched by the care and attention given to the war graves.

Either myself or my parents will be in touch with you again shortly with further informastion.

With kind regards

Bruce Gee

Hello Ruud

My name is Paul Gee I am the son of Percy Gee the brother of Fred Gee. My father died a couple of years ago but he often talked about his brother Fred. My father Percy served in the Fleet Air Arm all through the war he joined the Royal Navy in 1938 and then transferred into the Fleet Air Arm after basic training. He spent most of the War as an Air gunner flying in Swordfish’s, Walrus’s and Catalina Flying Boats. He saw action in all the theatres of the War, Atlantic, Mediterranean,  North Africa, Asia and the Pacific

Fred is mentioned in a book it tells of an incident and his death. The incident explains that his company was held up by heavy machine gun fire and Fred went forward to silence the gun. An officer remarked “ that man has not got a gun” A colleague of Fred’s replied “Fred doesn’t need a gun” the German gun was silenced.

Fred was killed by sniper fire and his body was booby trapped with explosives by the Germans so it lay for a number of days until the Engineers arrived to defuse the explosives.

Fred Was a large man with a talent for fighting this brought him into the War. He was happily breeding pigs in Bridlington during the early part of the War but selling them on the Black Market. Several Policemen were sent to arrest him but more Were needed, at his Trial the Judge said good fighting men are needed in the Army, you can Join Up or go to Jail, he joined the Army.

Fred was known in his home town as The Reverend, .because he was such a good fighter.

I hope this bit of information sheds a little light onto the man my uncle Fredrick Henry Gee was, he was 1 of 9 children of which 2 lost their lives in the War and 3 others also served.

Many thanks to you and your town for looking after the War Cemetery

Kindest Regards

Paul Gee
