Hello again Ruud,

In June this year (2009) I made some enquiries with the Army Medal Office because I realised that Leonards war medal had probably not been awarded. I determined that I was the next eligible claimant and as a result three medals arrived. Whilst these are nothing special as hundreds have been issued, they are indeed special as they belong to Leonard and they are now in my keeping.I wish I could show them to his mother and brother and sisters. That is not so, but I am proud to have them now. I send you pictures of these medals for placing on your website

Dear Ruud,

Many thanks for your email and the attached jpeg

Your reply was very quick

I attach some photographs of Leonard Allison for your website. I  also have two pictures of Leonard with other groups of soldiers. I do not know where these were taken (in england or europe) or if they comprise of 241 Field Company. But if they do they may contain some images of some more of the soldiers in your cemetery and might become treasured memories for some other people. Would you like me to send these to you as well? As you know, Leonard grew up in York, which is where I have lived for the last 40 years - about 2 miles from where he and his mother, my grandmother, lived

Myself and my brother are the only 2 next closest relations of Leonard Allison still alive. My mother was one of Leonards older sisters and we had his picture on display in our house since the end of WW2. I grew up with his image

His grave was originally adopted by the Westras? and Arpotts? who lived in Brunssum. I may find their address shortly - but sadly they will be long gone

Hello Ruud,

Here's another picture for you - it's Leonards mother outside her (Leonard's as well) house in York (with me and my brother ). I hope I havn't sent you this one before

She never talked about him to us - which was a pity really - perhaps because we were young, but must have carried much sadness throughout her life

This is a letter written from Brunssum on 19th December 1967. This shows the address of J.H.Arpotts who "adopted" Leonard Allisons grave. The Arpotts were very understanding and sympathetic towards my Grandmother and my mother about their loss and were a wonderful credit to the people of Brunssum

Hello Ruud,

Here are some interesting pictures for you. They are not high quality scans but I might be able to get them better in due course if you want them better. There is writing on the back of the photos and these are Arpotts pictures(and the Arpotts children)

Regards

Trevor
